final points total?

 according to my calculations I got a 70 for the mid term (35 points) , however I feel I have miscalculated or messed up on adding my points. I read everything which we were supposed to read and have engaged as much as possible in class and have not missed a single class to date, so I don't think this grade reflects my progress and the work i've put in for this class. I don't mean to sound cocking or anything like that (though it's hard not to with this kind of message), I just feel this grade is not a fair reflection of what I have done in this class and I deserve at least a B if not an A.

               I found it interesting to learn about the context which led to the creation of superman. I already understand a lot of the history of comics in what i thought was the “early days,'' but after reading this I quickly found out that my knowledge basically started with super man and dc’s early works. Powers like super strength are just so common to me that it never occurred to me that they were inspired by the exaggerated worlds of Popeye and other Fleischer studio’s work. women in comics: 5 points

 It is impossible to cover the work and wonders female comic artists have done in one simple lesson, however I do see the sad necessity in needing to dedicate and focus on the topic of female artists because of how far into the background they have been pushed. with that out of the way, i read "Pretty ink." I feel as though this is a little harder to analyze because it is more of a collection of comics and a history book with art in it as opposed to a comic itself, but I would still talk to talk about the stuff I read and what I learned about. i knew a bit about Rose O'Neil before this, but i never realized the uphill batter she had to face to become the artist that she would become, and not only that but how screwed she was once she became that. i also never realized how earlier she was in the history of the comics, coming around at about the same time as the yellow kid. while it wasn't very much, she was still there at the start which is pretty impressive. week 6: underground comics 6

     amongst the underground comics which i have read for this assignment, a common thread is a dedication to going purposefully against social and artistic norms. they have an objective of stirring the pot in such a way as to possibly push for some kind of change, or they may just be doing it because these are people who are less sensitive than others and find it funny when people are insulted by things they can calmly deal with.     for example, in air pirates funnies, they use images of cartoony, simple characters associated (at the time) with animation and news comics. However they pervert these images and add things like penises and vaginas and show these cute characters activity having sex with each-other. They are also very direct in having these characters use curse words.
